As trainers and breeders, we understand better than anyone how important it is for a horse to grow up healthy from birth. Since horses are herd animals, we believe it is essential for every foal to have the opportunity to grow up in a herd. This fosters the foal’s social development into adulthood and respects its natural instincts.
That’s why we keep our foals in groups starting from the moment they are weaned, around 5 months of age. These groups remain largely the same until they reach about 3 years old, both in summer and winter.
From the time they are weaned, foals are placed in groups of approximately six. During the winter stabling period, they are handled daily and given plenty of opportunity to move freely. This helps them grow into manageable, strong, and confident horses.
We pay close attention to pasture management and the quality of the feed during the stabling period. The same care applies to timely hoof trimming, vaccinations, and deworming, which is partially based on fecal egg count tests.
For health monitoring, we work closely with Paardenkliniek Wolvega and our feed suppliers whenever necessary.
In addition to raising our own foals, we have limited space available each year for foals from third parties. For more information about the possibilities for your foal, please contact us via the contact form on this site or call +31 (0) 6271 52 867 (Piet Sibma).
At Stal Sibma, we take great joy in our breeding program. Each year, we strive to produce a number of healthy foals with the goal of contributing to the future of the Friesian horse. The foundation of our breeding program lies in a select group of broodmares with exceptional bloodlines.
Careful Selection for a Healthy Friesian Horse
Selecting the right stallion for our mares is essential. We pay close attention to inbreeding percentages, genetic compatibility, and the presence of defective genes. Our goal is not only to breed healthy Friesian horses but also to preserve the breed's beautiful characteristics and its kind, reliable temperament.
Success in Inspections and Sport
Horses bred under our prefix, ‘fan Stal Sibma,’ have achieved remarkable results in recent years, both in inspections and in sport. This success makes us proud and fuels our passion for breeding quality horses.
